A prominent pro-life organization in the United Kingdom is pushing back on the House of Lords’ recent vote to decriminalize abortion up until the moment of birth in Great Britain, a vote described as the biggest change in abortion law in nearly 60 years.
According to Christian Today, the Centre for Bio-Ethical Reform UK (CBR), an organization focused on educating society on the “reality of abortion,” hosted an event last week featuring a graphic “public education display” of images of late-term abortions outside the Houses of Parliament during debate on the measure.
The landmark decision by the House of Lords was an amendment of The Crime and Policing Bill. The outlet reported that while the legal abortion limit remains at 24 weeks, women who abort their babies after the limit would not face criminal penalties.
The House of Lords vote means the decriminalization of at-home abortions up to birth now requires one more approval in the House of Commons before receiving royal assent and becoming law.
A member of the House of Lords said legal consequences for abortions are “barbaric treatment” and that the amendment will allow women to “get on with their lives” after having an abortion.
CBR’s display also included signage directed at the lawmakers that read, “You may choose to look the other way, but you can never again say you did not know." The quote is from 19th- century anti-slavery campaigner William Wilberforce.
